Comet gazing

Stargazer Mike Cunningham spotted Comet A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) slightly before sunrise on Sunday while camping out for a shot at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science at Gloucester Point. This was the first of two windows to spot the comet, with the second between Oct. 12 and 30. This is when there will be a better chance to see it, if you look to the west just after sunset. Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, which was discovered in January 2023, visits the inner solar system roughly every 80,000 years.
