Nationally-renowned botanical artist and instructor Dawn Flores recently taught a drawing and painting workshop, “Colored Pencil and Acrylics,” at Arts on Main in Gloucester. Here, student Mary Jane Zander enjoys using photos or still-life flora and fauna to expand beyond traditional colored pencil art and create unique works. The class was one of a number of special subsidized classes being taught at Arts on Main throughout the year in partnership with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The next class, “Altering Images: Photographic Transfers for Painting, Printmaking, and Collage,” is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3. Register online at gloucesterartsonmain.org/events.
