Longtime Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal advertising representative Buck Cobb is leaving his post to enjoy a well-earned retirement. His last official day is today.
Cobb joined the Gazette-Journal initially in 1981 for a two-year stint and returned in 1989. Since then, Buck has been a familiar face for many in the county who are used to seeing him stop by their businesses while making his rounds.
Cobb moved to Gloucester County in 1980 from Virginia Beach. He said back then, once you crossed the bridge everything slowed down and life was more peaceful. A year later and he accepted a position at Gazette-Journal selling ads. He said he still remembers the day he was first hired by John Warren Cooke, former publisher of the Gazette-Journal.
“He told me I may never get rich, but I’ll never go hungry,” said Cobb.
