Coastal Community Church, which has a home base in York County, is making progress toward opening its second location, in Gloucester.
Church leaders and volunteers are in the process of renovating a 7,000- square-foot building next to Ken Houtz Chevrolet-Buick and across from Gloucester Toyota that formerly housed several used car dealerships. A grand opening is planned for September.
According to senior pastor Shaun Brown, the congregation began meeting about 16 years ago in Grafton High School. It soon moved into its first regular location near Pop’s Drive In restaurant in York County and is currently housed in the former Kroger grocery store building at Kiln Creek Shopping Center.
According to Brown, the church has about 100 people from Gloucester who travel to Yorktown to worship each Sunday morning. He said since the former Ebenezer Baptist Church at Harcum gave Coastal Community some of its property, plans have been in the works to liquidate some of those asset...
