Clifford Herschel Grant of Gloucester, was born on Aug. 1, 1921, and died on July 23, 2011, just eight days short of his 90th birthday. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was pharmacist’s mate/medic assigned to the First Battalion, Ninth Marines, 3rd Marine Division in the South Pacific. He retired from the Hercules Corp. in Parlin, N.J., as a chemical lab technician after 39 years of service. After his retirement he moved to Gloucester to be near his daughter and her family. He enjoyed time on his boat fishing the Ware River and Mobjack Bay, and sharing his war stories with any captive audience he could find.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herschel Grant and Jennie Cartledge Grant, and his sister, Reba Grant Scharff and her husband Hoyt.
