Clarence Stephen Owens Sr. (The Big “O”), of Gloucester, died June 18, 2014 at the age of 76.
Clarence was born and lived most of his life at Bena, and then resided at Cappahosic. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Clarence worked for Gloucester Seafood Company and was a retired waterman.
He was an avid foxhunter, and loved the outdoors, working in his garden and hanging out with friends at Rick’s Country Store drinking coffee. He loved his family and was the most devoted husband, father and grandfather, and never met a stranger. We will miss you terribly, but you will live on in our memories until we see you again.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Turner Owens and Odell and Katie Blake, and brothers, James Leslie Owens and Odell Blake Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Frances; children, David, Stephen (Jennifer), Ronald (Hope), Crystal (Donnie); grandchildren, Stephen, Sterling, Breck, Will, Michael, Kristen and Jacob, and great-grandchildren, Lexi and Noah.
A funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Carol Bookwalter, was held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Bena. Interment followed in Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday, June 22, 2014, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
