CLARENCE ROBERT (BOBBY) MOORE

Clarence Robert (Bobby) Moore, 93, of Mathews, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born April 21, 1931 in Mathews, Virginia, to Charles and Bessie Hurst Moore. Bobby was a proud graduate of Mathews High School. He served honorably in the United States Air Force before embarking on a remarkable career with NASA and later retiring from RECO Commercial Systems in Columbia, South Carolina, where he dedicated nearly 50 years. Bobby lived life to the fullest, filled with adventure, optimism, encouragement, and was always happy for the successes of others. Bobby cherished boating and water skiing on Hills Bay as a young man, and enjoyed boating and jet skiing on Lake Murray in his later years. His passion for South Carolina Gamecock football brought friends together for many memorable game days. He also enjoyed books related to history, and had a keen interest in antique cars. Most importantly, Bobby valued the time spent with family and friends, especially during his return to Mathews over the past 18 months.
Bobby is survived by his children, Darryl (Kim) Moore of Mathews and their children Tucker (Ragon), Asa, Madison, and grandson Wade; Lynn (Mike) Strader of Richmond and their sons Payne and Dayton; Jamey Moore of Colorado; Holly Moore of Florida and her children Brielle, Cori, and Karston; niece, Kim (Ed) Dunklee of Newport News and their daughter Sara; sister, Pat Moore Fox of Newport News, and special friends, Faye and Benny Horne of Lexington, South Carolina, with whom he spent many wonderful holidays and was considered family. Bobby was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Bessie Moore; sister, Betty Moore, and his beloved grandparents, Harry and Bessie Hurst with whom he spent some of his happiest years growing up in Mathews.
At Bobby’s request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service. Those wishing to honor his memory may consider a donation to a local animal shelter or the Hospice House of Williamsburg. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and the Hospice House of Williamsburg for their care and kindness during Bobby’s final days.
