It began as an "outreach program," instigated by David Edgell, Senior Associate Pastor, and sponsored by the Men’s Ministries of Petsworth Baptist Church. The third Outdoor Sportsman Banquet, held in late January, proved to be a great success as 400 plus people attended.

"We had done something like this in a church in North Carolina that I had been with and I thought it would be a nice event for this area," explained Pastor Edgell. "I thought in an area where men were interested in fishing, hunting and all outdoor sports it would be a Christian event for the community that everyone would enjoy. It started as a men’s gathering and we now have a lot of women who participate."
