CHRISTOPHER STEVEN DEHOUX

Christopher Steven Dehoux, born on Aug. 27, 1985, was called to be an angel way too soon, on March 31, 2023. He leaves behind his wife/best-friend/soulmate Kristin Dehoux and their precious 4½-year-old son, Gabriel, whom he loved fiercely. He is also survived by his parents, Mark and Robin Dehoux; younger brother, David Dehoux (children Dalton and Declyn Dehoux), and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Christopher graduated from Georgetown University in 2016 with a master of science in nursing with a concentration in Adult Gerontology Acute Care. Following this, he used his compassionate and kind nature to care for those afflicted during the COVID pandemic, as a travel nurse practitioner. He had trained and mentored many a nurse and nurse practitioner and had an avid love of teaching, especially when it came to critical care medicine. Christopher took a sabbatical from work and spent his last six months “catching up” on the time he lost caring for others, with his family and, most importantly, his mini-me Gabriel.

Christopher or “Leroy” as some would say, was raised in Mathews, Virginia. He enjoyed sitting around his new Christmas present that his mom gave him, the firepit. He and Gabriel spent countless hours around it and shared a special bond, that of spending time outdoors in the fresh air. He had a love for the online game, Evony: The King’s Return, and had made many friends through this and even shared his caring spirit to them and helped people he never met in person through their personal struggles. This is just another way to attest to the type of person he was.

He has left a huge hole in our hearts and the medical community has lost such a valuable asset and the world lost a wonderful human being. Life will never, ever be the same. Christopher lived his life in the service of others, “Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.” —Chief Tecumseh. We should also strive to be as generous and thoughtful as he was.

A graveside service to celebrate Christopher’s life was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Hurst Family Cemetery at 449 Blue Water Road, Moon, Virginia 23119. A reception followed the service.
