The first ever “Christmas in Guinea” was celebrated on Dec. 12, bringing to life the “Night Before Christmas in Guinea” song with Santa Claus seated in a skiff being pulled by a Harris Garage wrecker. The celebration started at Union Baptist Church with visits with Santa during the day and ended with Santa’s ride around the Guinea Circle. Children and family photos with a socially distanced Santa were posted on the Guinea Heritage Association Facebook Page for viewing. The association hosted the event with Harris Garage, Inc., Consociate Media and Marker Nine, who also created the limited-edition 2020 Christmas in Guinea T-shirt with proceeds benefiting the GHA. The event also collected donations of 206 pounds of non-perishable food and approximately $400 worth of toys for local children. Based on the community support, this will likely become an annual event, a release stated. Here, Santa poses with Lou Sammons.
