Christmas cross

Ron Dixon installed this Christmas tree that fades into a cross in his yard at the corner of Twiggs Ferry Road and Wrenfield Lane in Cobbs Creek. The 16-foot-tall structure, designed and programmed by Ron and Travis Hall, is in memory of Ron’s late father, Lewis Dixon of Dixon and Son Plumbing. Ron said he wants it to serve as a reminder for everyone that “If it were not for the birth of Christ, we would not have a Christmas.” Ron’s wife Lili said that people in Cobbs Creek may be familiar with the scene, which has been installed every year for the past 18 years in a location farther down Twiggs Ferry Road. Lewis Dixon had a smaller cross he cherished on his property, she said, and that inspired Ron’s larger version. “We get so busy during this season that we lose sight of who we are supposed to be celebrating,” he said. “Removing the tree so the cross is in the foreground reminds us of that.”
