Christmas Blessing Fund sets $20,000 goal; Tom Robinson named honorary chair

Solicitation letters for this year’s Mathews Ruritan Club Christmas Blessing Fund will be mailed out early next month for this year’s fund drive, according to chairman Charles H. “Sonny” Richardson, Jr.
Since 1931, the Mathews Ruritan Club has sponsored this program which provides assistance for winter heating bills for Mathews County residents. Last year, 153 Mathews families were assisted.
Tom Robinson, a longtime resident of Mathews, is the honorary chairperson of the 2024 Christmas Blessing Fund. Robinson is a native of Richmond, where he attended the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University. He served in the United States Marine Corps as Deputy Wing Commander of the Virginia Wing CAP. He played trumpet in the USMC band and was Commander LTC of the Virginia Guard Retired Battalion.
