It is with tremendous sadness that we share that our beloved mother, sister, grandmother (GiGi), and aunt, Christine Wray Maurice, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. Christine Wray Maurice was born on December 23, 1933, in Jarrett, Virginia, to the late Clinton Lyle Wray and Pauline Wray-Briggs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy R. Maurice; her son, Randy Maurice; and two siblings, Dorothy Corona and Tommy Briggs. She is survived by her four children: Shirley Martin, Cathy Snead, Steve Maurice (David), and Nancy Messbarger (Bill). She was a cherished GiGi to 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sarah Briggs Stewart, and her brother, Larry Briggs. She will be remembered as a strong, independent woman who knew everything—and we mean everything. Her greatest joy in life was her family, whom she loved with all her heart, and cooking meals for her friends at Daffodil Gardens, who often saw her rolling around the grounds in her “Blessing” wheelchair. She was also a longtime volunteer with the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad. A celebration of her life was held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Beulah Baptist Church in Gloucester, Va., at 12 p.m. Viewing began at 11 a.m. The burial immediately followed the service at Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery in Hayes, Va. The family hosted a meal for family and friends to celebrate her memory at 1:30 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church.
