Christina Marie Owens, age 55, of Mathews, Va., passed unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at her home in Glebe.

She was born on Dec. 27, 1958 and was a Mathews County resident for 41 years. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Horn Harbor Nursing Home, New Point, Va., and retired from Walter Reed Hospital after 25 years of being a CNA and transportation assistant.

She was a loving mother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by her family.

She attended Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs, Va., where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Agape Circle. She also served and made food for the “Thursday’s Kitchen.”

The highlight of her day was doing crossword puzzles.

Christina was preceded in death by parents, Robert Minor, father, George “Tony” Anthony, stepfather, and her mother, Laverne Anthony.

She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Owens of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Laura Garrett of Mathews; her two brothers, Russell Minor of Gloucester, and Allen Minor of Smithfield. She is also survived by her former spouse, Ray Owens and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Nov. 7, 2014 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs. A funeral service will be on Nov. 8, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Salem UMC with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Kilmarnock, Va.
