CHRISTINA D’ERRICO VERMEIRE

Christina D’Errico Vermeire, Tina as she was known by so many, of Gloucester Point, was ushered into Heaven early Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, surrounded by her husband and five children. Tina was an incredibly beautiful person, so often the first thing people noticed when they met her; it was only once you had gotten to know her that you would realize that that beauty came straight from her soul. She was full of comfort and joy, kindness and warmth, strength and grace. She was also known, especially in her younger years, as a woman who loved to tease those she cared for, with her good-natured humor that could make you feel loved, even when you were on the receiving end. She had a personality that was larger than life, drawing everyone near; people couldn’t help but want to be in her presence, where you could feel her light shining. She devoted her entire life to family, first her parents and sisters and then her family, which she built with her husband Glenn.

She was a homemaker, which utilized and showcased her talents as a wonderful cook, a party planner, a decorator, a baker, and every other thing that moms do to make life beautiful and easy for her husband and kids. After her kids had grown, she was happy to welcome what became the greatest loves and blessings of her life, her five grandchildren. As she did with her own kids, she was devoted to them in a way incomparable to anything else in her life. She was always willing to do anything for them, whether it was as simple as getting them a drink long after they could do it themselves (she always said that she wanted to wait on them for as long as they would let her because they would only be little for such a little while) to having multi-day sleepovers full of ice cream sundaes and cookies as big as dinner plates because they never wanted to leave. Aside from her family, she was also devoted to her Catholic faith and her church family, catering countless dinners full of her famous food and attending St. Joan of Arc mass every Sunday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, whom she has patiently waited to meet in heaven, Thomas D’Errico, and Jean Berkovich D’Errico. Left behind to hold her in their hearts are her faithful and loving husband of 45 years, Glenn Vermeire; her five devoted children, JR (Glenn Jr.), Stephanie, Stacy, Chrissy, and Jackie; son-in-law, Ryan, and her heart, her most cherished loves, her grandchildren, Sophia, Emmy, Natty, Ry, and Olivia. She leaves her sisters, aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-niece and -nephews. There was never a better mother or grandmother and we will never stop loving her. Two of her greatest accomplishments were the faith and love of our Catholic teaching and the bonds she lovingly forged within our family and it is these things that we will rely on as we navigate these most difficult times in the coming days, weeks, months, and years. The family received friends Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 315 Harris Grove Lane, Yorktown, Va. 23692, followed by interment at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Providence Road, Hayes, Va. 23072. In memory of our loved one, the family requests that masses be offered for Tina’s beautiful soul. You can reach out to a local Catholic church or go to MyMassRequest.org.
