February 21, 1931-November 17, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Christa Gisela Hinton lovingly known as Ogi, at the age of 93. She left this world surrounded by her granddaughters, Christa N. Hinton and Hillary M. Podd; her daughter, Heidi L. Callis, and her great-granddaughters, Elle Podd and Adaline Podd, who were with her in her final moments.
Born on February 21, 1931 in Germany, Christa met the love of her life, Albert Randall Hinton, in 1956. They married on March 10, 1957 in Whigham, Georgia, and together they built a beautiful life until his passing. Christa was a devoted mother to her two children, Heidi and Mark Hinton. She also maintained a loving relationship with her former daughter-in-law, Susanna, and Jean Sutton (Heidi’s former mother-in-law). Their relationships are a testament to the love and unity Ogi fostered within her family. Mark, along with her beloved husband, preceded her in death, leaving her with a legacy of love that continued through her family.
In 1972, Ogi unofficially adopted her daughter Heidi’s best friend, Gayle Borst, who became a cherished part of the family and continued to be a source of great support throughout her life.
Christa was a determined, kind, and generous soul who touched the hearts of everyone she met. She was a proud grandmother to her granddaughters and cherished her four great-grandchildren—Bradford West (10 years old), Elle Podd (7 years old), Scarlet Schmidt (4 years old), and Adaline Podd (4 years old)—who loved her immensely. After moving to America, she proudly became a United States citizen, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her new home. She had a passion for collecting stamps and coins and was an excellent seamstress, as well as taking on any household repair with skill and enthusiasm.
Christa’s warmth and spirit will be profoundly missed by her family and all who knew her. She will be buried at Arlington Cemetery with her husband, in a private family service planned in the near future.
