Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry will present its home-grown quartet, “The Chicken Soup Gang,” this Saturday. The show will be at Mathews High School’s Harry M. Ward auditorium. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8.
Years ago, when four gentlemen gathered in a friend’s kitchen to rehearse for an upcoming Opry show, singing “some old quartet songs,” they couldn’t have predicted the journey it would take them on, a release stated.
None are strangers to the stage, but when they bring their solo talents together (and their own brand of nutty comedy), something unique is created. Tenors Holt Ripley and Walt Stillman, baritone Anthony Lee Wood, and bass Bruce Brooks will sing a number of country classics, like “Elvira,” “I’ll Go to My Grave” and “Flowers on the Wall.”
