Chesty Puller Memorial to be held June 15

Middle Peninsula Detachment 1317 Marine Corps League will host its annual Chesty Puller Memorial on Saturday, June 15, beginning at 1 p.m., at Christ Church Parish Hall, Saluda.
Guest speaker this year is Medal of Honor winner and Northern Neck resident Harvey C. Barnum Jr. Marines from NWS Yorktown and Fort Gregg Adams in Petersburg will also be in attendance. The event is open to the public.
Born in West Point in 1898, Lt. Gen. Lewis Burwell “Chesty” Puller is the most decorated Marine in American history. In 1955, he retired to the childhood home of his wife, Virginia, in Saluda.
About 150 Marines will attend, along with members of Puller’s family. The owner of his house in Saluda is there and the home is open to visitors on that day. A graveside toast at the church will be conducted at the end of the ceremony. The program will also include a buffet meal.
