The Chesapeake Trail is now hiring three candidates for its Cultural Steward Individual Placement program. The cultural stewards will have the opportunity to support Werowocomoco, an archaeological site located on the north side of the York River in Gloucester.
Throughout the program, the cultural stewards will experience a variety of careers within the National Park Service by working with staff from the maintenance, interpretation, natural resources and law enforcement divisions at the Chesapeake Trail and the Colonial National Historical Park. They will use the knowledge that they gain to help protect and interpret the Werowocomoco site.
Examples of training and projects may include developing educational programs, surveying the deer population at Werowocomoco, inventorying native and invasive plant species, assisting with archeological monitoring, observing patrols of Werowocomoco by law enforcement rangers and caring for the grounds and buildings at Werowocomoco.
