CHARLES RICHARD ‘CHUCK’ DAVIS

Charles Richard “Chuck” Davis passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025.
Chuck was born to Joseph and Eva Davis in Newport News, Va., on January 30, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Benjamin, Edward J. “Buddy” Davis, and Joseph E. “Pete” Davis. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marian Clements Davis, along with three children, Charles Joshua Davis (Ellen), Joseph Marion Davis (Cheryl) and Rebecca Davis Rose (Robert); his six beloved grandchildren, Mitchell (Heather), William (Astrid), Katelyn, Tess (Brendan), Ned, and Zoe, and five great-grandchildren.

Chuck was a man of many interests and talents. He received his Bachelor of Science from the MCV Pharmacy School in 1956. He served in the Army National Guard in a field artillery unit. He was a successful community pharmacist in Deltaville, York-town, and West Point, with a lengthy tenure as co-owner of the Plaza Pharmacy in Hayes, Va. During his career in the pharmacy profession, Chuck was a member of the Virginia Pharmacists Association, and the Phi Delta Chi Professional Pharmacy Fraternity. His community pursuits included assisting with the establishment of the Watermen’s Museum in Yorktown, and founding and organizing the annual “Guinea Jubilee” in lower Gloucester County.

He was an avid outdoorsman, spending many days with family and friends fishing on the water or hunting in the field and telling them stories about the old days. He enjoyed gardening, raised numerous species of flowers and shared his propagation of bulbs and shoots with others. He was a true Southern gentleman, a stranger to no one, striking up conversation with anyone, made a point to meet everyone in a room, and for those he knew to genuinely ask about their family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation and a funeral service was on Wednesday, January 15, 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively, at Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church in Yorktown. A subsequent graveside service was held at 1 p.m. at the Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, Va.
