Charles Montford Ware Jr., 78, of Hallieford, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022. Born in Newport News and raised in Lee Hall and Hallieford, he was the son of the late Charles Montfort Ware Sr. and Kathryn Marston Ware. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Marilyn Johnson and Kathryn “Taffy” Wilbern.
Charlie was a man of many talents and after graduating from Danville Technical Institute he applied his mechanical knowledge both professionally and as an amateur racer that could make anything on wheels go faster, from his old Vauxhall in high school to dragsters to sprint cars. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would teach himself and happily share that knowledge with anyone willing and wise enough to ask his advice. He was a Harley-Davidson fan his entire life and loved taking Reba on his Heritage for rides through the countryside to enjoy the pleasant days together.
He is survived by his sons, Charles Myron Ware of Newport News and wife Liz, Christopher Macon Ware of Williamsburg, and Charles Montfort (Trey) Ware III and wife Sarah of Mathews; grandchildren, Kelsie, Connor, Casey and Will. Also surviving is his life partner Reba’s children, Hinkley-Bettis, Michele Hinkley-Cechini and Robert Hinkley.
There is also a veritable slew of Ware family relatives in the Toano and surrounding areas who share this large family tree of descendants from the early colonial days.
A Celebration of his Life is being planned at a later date. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia, is assisting the family.
