Charles Esek “Charlie” Mayer Sr., 89, of Mathews, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023. He retired from Anheuser-Busch after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, lifetime member of the NRA, Tractor Clubs, and the Antique Engines Club. Charlie loved to work with his hands and restore antique tractors, gas engines and steam engines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Jeanette Mayer; daughter, Karen Guffey; sister, Jeanne Patterson, and sons-in-law, Larry Guffey and Bobby Fields.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mayer; daughters, Cheryl Nowell (Bill), Brenda McLain (Craig) and Rosemary Fields; sons, Charles Mayer Jr. and Thom Mayer; his brother, Bob Mayer (Ruth); grandchildren, Jennifer, Chase, Kristie, Dustin, William “Bill,” Amber, Lindsey, Barbara, Heidi, and Heather; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and other loving family members.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek, Va. 23035.
