A graveside service for Charles E. "Elmer" Thacker, 79, of Bena, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in H. C. Smithers Cemetery, Hudgins. He died Saturday, June 9, 2012.

Mr. Thacker was a member of Union Baptist Church, Achilles. He worked mostly in the building industry and was a master gardener.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Clarice R. Thacker and parents, Floyd and Goldie Thacker.

Survivors include his children, Robert L. Thacker, Scott Thacker, Paul Thacker and Kathy Jefferson; sisters, Audrey Nester and Catherine Walton; brothers, Richard Thacker and Houston Thacker; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The service was conducted by the Rev. Dave McKnight.

Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, was in charge.
