CHARLES B. ‘CHUCK’ THOMPSON JR.

Charles B. “Chuck” Thompson Jr., age 89, of Hayes, died on Friday, June 14, 2024. Chuck was born on August 3, 1934 to the late Charles and Bessie Louise Thompson in New Bern, North Carolina. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a nuclear engineer at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and as a Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion, and Repair U.S.N. at Newport News Shipbuilding. He was a Mason and served as Worshipful Master of two lodges. While Master of the Chuckatuck Lodge in Suffolk, Va., in 1993, he actively assisted in combining three lodges into Nansemond Lodge No. 77 and became its Master for a short time. He later became Master of Botetourt Lodge No. 7 in Gloucester, Va. He was an award-winning sailboat racer and a successful painter in acrylics. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Bryan K. Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Kathryne L. Thompson; stepchildren, Michael Pittman (Bonnie) of Yorktown, Sherry Schregardus (William) of Yorktown, Alexander Pittman (Sandra) of Millsboro, Delaware; grandchildren, Amy DeWitte, Jason Elliott, Sierra Pittman, Addison Pittman, Ellie Pittman; nephew, Burt Thompson and niece, Susan Thompson. In memory of Chuck, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Tampa, Fla.

Services are private and under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory.
