Celesta "Susie" Kemp Emerson of Yorktown, passed from this life on Oct. 24, 2011 into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 85.
Susie was one of the oldest members of Bethel Baptist Church and a member of the Sunday school. Family was very important to Susie and she was faithful to them and enjoyed family gatherings. Her spirit and zest for life brought pure joy into the lives of those who knew her, and she will be missed.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Jack Emerson; son, Roy Emerson, and grandson, Robbie Carpenter.
She is survived by daughters, Celesta Hogge and Jackie Hollis; grandchildren, Colleen Marchese, Donald Ashley Crisp, Michelle Hoffman, Rena Emerson, Shane Emerson, Jackson Emerson; sister, Lillian Hudgins; brothers, Benny Kemp and Johnson Kemp; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Dr. Douglas Echols will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church, 1004 Yorktown Road. Interment will follow in Windsor Gardens Cemetery.
The family received friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
