Cecil L. “Pip” Compton, 84, of Gloucester, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father and reunited with his beloved wife, Georgie, on Oct. 25, 2013.
Mr. Compton was born in Honaker, Va., on Oct. 3, 1929, and was the son of the late Wade Hampton and Lillie Belle Thompson Compton. On May 3, 1952, he married the love of his life, Georgia Leen Hubbard. They made their home in Newport News until moving to Gloucester in 2009.
He served in the U.S. Army, and was employed at the Newport News Shipyard for 39 years until his retirement in 1991. Cecil was an avid sportsman, golfer, and billiards player, excelling in all endeavors. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and devoted his life to his family. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his loving wife, Georgie.
He is survived by his daughters, Diane Duchin and her husband Eric of Newport News, Va., Lisa Game and her husband Doug of Gloucester, and Debbie Liston and her husband Mike of Gloucester, and his grandchildren, Cory Compton Coleman, Christopher Clary, Rachel Game, D.J. Game, Sydney Liston, and Ryleigh Liston. All will cherish his memory forever.
A memorial service will be at Petsworth Baptist Church, Gloucester, at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, with the Rev. Dave Edgell officiating. Interment will be private at Petsworth Baptist Church Cemetery, Gloucester.
