With vaccinations up across Virginia, COVID-19 case rates continued to decline locally, districtwide, and statewide during the past week. Hospitalizations and death rates remained stable.
Gloucester saw 69 new cases during the past week, for a total of 3,766 since the beginning of the pandemic, while Mathews had 12 new cases, for a total of 871, and Middlesex added 15, for a total of 923.
Four Gloucester residents died during the past week, bringing the total number of COVID deaths in the county to 68, while Mathews lost one resident to the virus, for a total of 20, and Middlesex had no new deaths, leaving the total at 27.
In Gloucester, three residents were hospitalized with the virus from last Wednesday to this Wednesday, for a total of 90 residents who have had hospital stays due to the virus during the past 19 months. Middlesex added one hospitalization, for a total of 32, and Mathews added none, leaving the number at 29.
