The Other Moving Company, Inc., has purchased the former Carter Lumber facility on Route 17, Hayes.
President Brian Hudgins of Gloucester Point, said that a requirement of his company’s affiliation as a commercial agent for Michigan-based Stevens Worldwide Van Lines is that the local company have its own climate-controlled military storage warehouse. After looking at other Gloucester properties, Hudgins selected the former lumber yard site, where a storage building has been renovated into a military storage facility so a member of the armed forces can have his or her possessions secured while stationed abroad.
The eight-acre site includes a large outdoor parking space for moving vans and other equipment, Hudgins said, as well as four buildings. The front building has rental space, with Hudgins leasing 5,000 square feet to Habitat for Humanity for its ReStore operation. An adjacent 4,000 square feet is now available for lease.
