An in-person memorial service for Carolyn Gardner Valentine will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Anderson Park in Newport News. She died on June 9, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia.

She was a native of Gloucester County and had been a member of Rising Valley Baptist Church and Morning Glory Baptist Church. She graduated from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University).

Survivors include five children, Jenelle (Jenny), Karen, David, John and Matthew; a brother, Wymond; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Sherwood Gardner and Marguerite Davenport Gardner, and two brothers.

Numerous online memorials are also being planned.
