CARL EDWARD GENITO

Carl Edward Genito, 86, of Gloucester Point, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014.

Carl was born in the steelmill town of Duquesne, a suburb of Pittsburgh, on Oct. 6, 1927. An excellent athlete, he lettered in football and played for legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant at the University of Kentucky. Carl was also an accomplished football coach himself and a 2000 inductee into the Bishop Moore Catholic High School (Orlando, Florida) Hall of Fame. Carl was also a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, moving to Virginia in the early 1980s to be closer to his growing family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Genito; brothers, Ralph and Bobby Genito; and sister, Betty Genito.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Betsie Harris and husband Jimmy; three grandsons, Brian Harris and wife Sara, Michael Harris and wife Katie and Mark Harris; two great-grandsons, Allen James and Jakob Edward Harris.

Graveside funeral service conducted by the Rev. Bill West will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Abingdon Episcopal Church Cemetery. Friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery.

The family would like to sincerely thank the many friends, nurses, aides and private caregivers who helped care for Carl during the last years of his life.
