Care and preservation of Washington, D.C. buildings topic of King and Queen Historical Society talk

Richard Carter, formerly with the Smithsonian Institution, will give a talk during a meeting of the King and Queen Historical Society at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, in the courtroom of the county administration building, 242 Allens Circle, King and Queen Court House. It is free and open to the public.
Carter will speak on the care and preservation of historical federal government buildings in Washington, D.C. He will also touch on the care and preservation of the Virginia Capitol and the Executive Mansion in Richmond.
Carter worked for years at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and the National Museum of American Art, said a press release. He later worked at the National Endowment for the Humanities, located in the building called “The Old Post Office.” In Richmond, he served a five-year term on the board that oversees the Executive Mansion. A writer and editor, Carter lives with his wife Cynthia in Essex County.
