Mathews voters had one of their few chances to ask questions of candidates for constitutional offices during a forum held last Thursday at the Piankatank Ruritan Club at Hudgins.
The forum was held for candidates for commonwealth’s attorney, commissioner of the revenue, and sheriff, in addition to school board candidates. A similar forum held a week earlier gave candidates for the clerk of circuit court and board of supervisors a chance to speak.
Moderated by Cheryl Dale, the event ran smoothly and included only questions for the candidates, with no time allotted them for opening or closing remarks.

Commonwealth’s attorney candidates A. Conrad Bareford III and T. Marie Walls were asked how they planned on educating the public about their duties and whether they would be willing to volunteer in the schools to educate students about their jobs.
