The Mathews Branch NAACP will hold a candidate forum from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Emmaus Baptist Church, 13974 John Clayton Memorial Highway, North. School board and Congressional candidates will participate.
Lorraine Forrest and Mari Gibbs, candidates running for the Mathews County School Board, have both accepted the invitation to participate and will be featured first, said a press release.
Jeanice Sadler resigned her seat on the board following the 2021 general election and Forrest was appointed on an interim basis until this year’s special election, which is being held for Sadler’s remaining one year. The same seat will be up again for election in 2023 for a full four-year term.
The three candidates running for the seat for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District are Democrat Herb Jones, independent David Foster, and Republican incumbent Rob Witt- man.
