Dominion Energy recently completed construction on a large-scale solar facility in Gloucester and is now connected to the electric grid.
The new solar farm, Camellia Solar, is located a few miles east of the courthouse area along Daffodil Lane in Ware Neck and is obscured to the roadside by trees and bushes.
The 20-megawatt facility can power up to 5,000 homes at peak output and has more than 46,000 solar panels on approximately 100 acres of land.
Camellia is the third operational solar facility in Gloucester owned by Dominion Energy. Winterberry Solar, which was connected to the grid in November 2023, was the last farm to become operational.
Construction for Camellia began in July 2023 and provided $34 million in economic benefits through development and construction-related costs such as architectural services, engineering costs for materials and the cost to build the facility. The project also provided about 50 jobs.
