BZA approves indoor theater request

The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals approved two special exceptions during a meeting Sept. 28 in the colonial courthouse.

Barbara Kay Van Dyke, property owner, applied for a special exception to establish an indoor theater and auditorium at 6580 Main Street. The applicant also requested, and was granted, a variance of 38 parking spaces.

Ron Peaks, Gloucester’s codes compliance director, said Sept. 29 that Van Dyke will be allowed to have a maximum of 150 people in her facility at a time, with evening hours set for weekdays and afternoon and evening hours set for weekends.

There was no opposition to the Van Dyke application, Peaks said, and the board agreed with staff recommendation that there are usually plenty of other parking spots in the village at night and weekends to accommodate the theater’s audience.
