BRYCEN AUSTIN WERMTER

Brycen Austin Wermter lost his life due to a tragic accident on Sunday, July 30, 2023. He was born to Carl and Sharlynne Wermter on February 5, 2007, in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. While Brycen’s time with us could never be long enough, very few can attest to living in the moment as he did. Despite his youth, Brycen was a shining example of how to love life while being fiercely loyal to family and friends. Much like his father, Brycen developed a servant heart and knew he was called to help others. He had plans to serve his country in the military and was actively exploring other ways to serve his community. Brycen was a member of the Gloucester High School ROTC program and a football player for the Gloucester Dukes. Brycen (#81) played tight end, which is a physical and selfless position known for protecting and creating opportunities for teammates. Brycen was entering his junior year in high school. His love for football stemmed from years of growing up as a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, often watching games with his dad or loved ones. While Pittsburgh was Brycen’s hometown team, he also embodied the Steeler culture of Respect, Integrity, Family, and Grit. Brycen and his family later moved to Gloucester County, Virginia, where his infectious smile, inviting blue eyes, sense of humor, and kindness led many to be the benefactors of his friendship and love. He even learned how to hunt, often exhibiting an alertness that surprised those with much more experience. While Brycen was known for playing hard and giving 110% to life, he had a sense of style that was rare and envied. It was not unusual for Brycen to dress in his Sunday’s best on a Friday. His taste for style likely came from his mom as they also shared a love for ’90s rap music. One can imagine Brycen and his mom belting out lyrics to songs that were older than him.

There is much about Brycen that brings a smile to those who knew him. However, he will be remembered for the fact that his family was the most important thing in his life. He loved spending time and making memories with his siblings, parents, and bonus parents. He was his brother’s best friend, a confidant to his other younger siblings, and a protector for anyone who was bullied. Brycen stood up for others even when no one was looking or if it took him down a more difficult path. He left this world with a heart full of love and selflessness. Brycen’s family and friends are extremely proud of his legacy. His sense of humor, quick wit, and presence lit up every room he entered. His love for his family and friends will always stay in the hearts of those who knew him.

Brycen is survived by his mother and father, Sharlynne and Carl Wermter; his bonus parents, Amanda Wermter and Jon McDonald; his brother, Kyler Wermter; his sister, Alyvia Wermter, and his extended siblings, Hannah Ridings, Carson Ridings, Mac McDonald, and Montgomery McDonald.

Services will be held at Lighthouse Worship Center in Gloucester on Friday, August 4, 2023. This includes a time for visitation from 3-6 p.m., followed by funeral services at 6 o’clock. Attire is formal; however, any favorite football jerseys are also welcomed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to the Dukes Touchdown Club, 6699 Fox Centre Parkway, Box 208, Gloucester Va. 23061 or Dukes Touchdown Club on PayPal to honor Brycen’s love for his team.

Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
