Elizabeth A. “Beth” Brown, 38, of Bavon has announced her candidacy for the office of Mathews County Clerk of Circuit Court.
Running as an independent, Brown said she has almost four years of experience working as deputy clerk in the Mathews Clerk’s Office, during which she has served two years as chief deputy.
If elected, she said she plans to continue the excellent service the clerk’s office has always provided and will continue to increase the public’s access to documents. She said she took on an initiative at the beginning of this year to back-scan the land and plat records prior to June 2006, when all records began to be digitized and available for search by computer. Thus far, the office has digitized the remainder of 2006, and Brown hopes eventually to have all circuit court records computerized.
“It’s a time-consuming process,” she said, “but it’s worth it so that all the deeds will be in the same system and people won’t have to pull the books to search.”
