Tina Bull Broaddus, 54, of Hudgins has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Mathews County School Board.
Broaddus said she decided to run because of some of the trends she saw during her teaching career, especially over the past few years. Class sizes are increasing, she said, and it’s in part because teachers are not always being replaced when they leave, which impacts funding for subsequent years. In addition, she said, buildings, athletic facilities, and school technology need to be upgraded, and teachers need a salary increase.
A certified teacher who spent 23 years teaching third grade and kindergarten in Middlesex County, Broaddus now works for the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board’s Rural Infant Services Program as a service coordinator and developmental therapist.
