Mathews supervisors heard a special presentation at its Aug. 15 meeting on the progress made on issues surrounding implementation of the public safety radio system that was approved by the board in February 2021 but is still not completed.
Cheryl S. Giggetts, principal consultant for CTA Consultants LLC, was appointed after the June board meeting to work on the issue. She projected that the radio system could be up and running by the end of the year.
Giggetts told board members that she has been helping localities work on their multi-jurisdiction systems for 35 years, beginning with a needs assessment and seeing a project through to implementation.
Mathews is in the implementation phase, she said, and her first task was to get a handle on the many parties involved in the radio system, from county personnel to the regional system manager, vendor L3Harris Technologies, Inc., and the microwave network contractor.
