Boating safety class to be held Oct. 21 at MVRS building

A free boating safety class will be offered from 8:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad on Cricket Hill Road in Hudgins.
Experienced Coast Guard Auxiliary Mathews Flotilla 66 instructors will conduct a ‘Boat Virginia’ classroom course. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive their Boating Education Certificate, which is required for operators of personal watercraft and motorboats of 10 horsepower and greater. The certificate is good for the lifetime of the boater.
The class will cover subjects including “Before You Get Underway,” “Operating Your Boat—Safely,” “The Legal Requirements of Boating,” and “Boating Emergencies—What to Do.”
Boat Virginia is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.
