Eight students received lifetime Boating Education Certificates during a Boat Virginia class on Saturday, presented by Coast Guard Auxiliary Mathews Flotilla 66 at the Mathews Rescue Squad building. All operators of personal watercraft and motorboats of 10 horse power or greater are required to pass an approved boating safety education course. This course is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and covers such topics as the nautical rules of the road, the legal requirements of boating, what to do in an emergency, and safe operation of a personal water craft.
