Crews from Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue were dispatched on Sunday to a reported boat fire at the end of Sawgrass Pointe Drive. First arriving crews found an approximately 26’ motorboat, heavily involved; with fire extending to a sailboat moored at an adjacent slip. AVFR responded with two engines, a rescue vehicle, tanker, medic, fireboat and 14 firefighters. Mutual aid was provided by York County Department of Fire and Life Safety with an additional fireboat. AVFR units operated on scene for approximately two hours; there were no reported injuries. The scene was turned over to the Virginia Marine Police.
