Boards hold joint meeting to review work session items

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors and School Board met Tuesday night in the T.C. Walker Education Center auditorium to review several work session items at their biannual joint meeting.
The meeting began with Sheriff Joe McLaughlin of New Kent presenting the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission reaccreditation to Sheriff Darrell Warren of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.
McLaughlin said that the GCSO has been a great partner with New Kent over the years and is also always there to assist others in the region. GCSO has been accredited since 2012, which is a voluntary process and is not required by the commonwealth.
Bryan Hartley, director of operations for Gloucester County Public Schools, presented long-range capital plans for the school system, which include division-wide restroom renovations, the ongoing school bus replacement cycle and a lockset replacement for all classroom doors to make them easier to secure in case of a lockdown.
