Board considers tax relief for seniors

Gloucester supervisors discussed the possibility of tax relief for senior citizens and received a presentation from the Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic on the occasion of its 25th anniversary during Tuesday’s meeting, which was held in the colonial courthouse.

There had been prior discussions by board members to consider additional tax relief for senior citizens. Commissioner of Revenue JoAnne Harris provided information on current tax relief for senior citizens on in anticipation of further discussion in the future.
Supervisor Phillip Baz-zani said that the board needed to look into how it can help the elderly with their taxes, but not before the budget year. Bazzani, an instructor at the Joseph W. Luter III School of Business at Christopher Newport University, said that he has students who are working on extra credit for a project that won’t be ready until about mid-spring. He intends on presenting it to board members first before presenting it to the public.
