Board approves $867,329 in interim financing

Following a public hearing last Thursday, the Mathews County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to pull funding from its $5 million interim financing VA SNAP account in order to increase the current year’s budget by $867,329, for a total FY2024-25 budget of $40,843,165.
The change, made in the midst of ongoing discussions on next year’s budget, will allow for payment of four upcoming expenses: purchase of the Mathews Boys & Girls Club for Mathews Volunteer Fire Department’s future Station 1, $575,000; purchase of additional radio equipment for the public safety radio system, $211,146; matching payment for the VDOT sidewalk project at Mathews High School, $77,175; and additional funding for the Mathews Victim/Witness program, $4,008.
