Blue Devils’ struggles continue

The Blue Devils’ struggles continued this week, dropping two games over the weekend in the Lancaster Tournament, despite tallying 19 hits.
With a 1-6 record, the Mathews High School varsity baseball team will try to get back on the right track with a home game yesterday against Charles City and a road game today at King William.
Mathews met Nandua in the first game of the tournament on Friday night, falling 3-1. Junior Will Harrington took the hill for the Devils to begin the game, and, after allowing one unearned run forced by an error in the bottom of the first, he sailed through 3 2/3 more innings of shutout ball, totaling 4 2/3 innings, three hits, and three strikeouts. Unfortunately for the Devils, their offense would not back the stellar pitching, as an RBI single by Marshall Barrack in the top of the first inning would be their only run of the game. Relief pitcher Colin Cook was tagged with the loss after allowing two unearned while giving up only one hit over
