The Mathews High School varsity football team dropped to 0-5 last week following a 54-13 loss to the visiting Rappahannock Raiders.
Mathews picked up all its points in the first half, on a touchdown run by Austin Fravel and a TD pass from quarterback Will Harrington to Jesse Ingram. The Blue Devils trailed the Raiders 34-13 at the half. Dayshon Williamson rushed for 55 yards, while Fravel added 40 yards. With the win, the Raiders improved to 5-0.
The Devils will be looking to break into the win column this Friday night in the homecoming game match against the winless King and Queen Royal Tigers (0-5). Game time is 7 o’clock.
Jayvees fall, 54-14
The jayvee team lost by a nearly identical margin against the Rappahannock Raiders last Wednesday, 54-14. Jonathan Kincade scored both Blue Devil touchdowns in that game.
