Approaching the midpoint of the 2012 season, the Mathews High School varsity football team is still looking for its first win. The Blue Devils’ most recent loss came on Friday evening at Lancaster, falling to the host Red Devils, 44-23.
"Our mistakes became touchdowns real fast," MHS head coach Paul White said on Monday morning. "I look forward to practice so we can make corrections and work on fundamentals for improvement. At times we play very well, executing our offense, defense and special teams. We need to keep it positive and move forward."
Junior running back Dayshon Williamson spearheaded the Mathews offense, gaining 94 yards on 20 carries, including two touchdowns. His first TD was an 8-yard run in the first quarter; the second came on an 11-yard carry near the end of the third quarter.
