Blue Devils crush Charles City, 14-0

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team notched another win on Tuesday, shutting out the Charles City Panthers, 14-0, in a five-inning game.
Thomas Hubbard pitched the first three innings, holding the Panthers hitless. Justin Jones and Dawson Adams combined to preserve the shutout; Jones gave up one hit and struck out one in the fourth inning, while Adams retired the side (two strikeouts and a ground-out) in the bottom of the fifth.
Adams was the standout performer on the MHS offense, going 4-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs, including a grand slam homer in the fourth. Ethan Hudgins went 2-for-3, scoring three runs, and Noah Wright was 1-for-3 with three RBIs. As a team, Mathews collected 11 hits and nine stolen bases and committed no errors.
The varsity Devils will host West Point today, Thursday, April 20, starting at 5 p.m.
