The Blue Devils Cross Country team traveled to Middlesex to face the Chargers and Northumberland last Wednesday. Both Mathews High School teams finished a great race, advancing their winning records to 14-0 for the girls with a 27-point victory and 16-0 for the boys with an overall score of 20 points at the meet.
The boys raced with long-used tactics of pack running to place second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh overall. Leading the boys was Elisha Kane with a time of 19:21. Right behind him were Kyle Slaughter (19:23), Tucker Blackwell (19:39), Justin Adams (20:01), Nick Brown (20:17), Sam Jasinski (20:29) and Ricky Rutter (20:43).
The girls raced well too, with Kate van Emmerik leading the charge with a time of 23:34. Pursuing van Emmerik were Emily Brown (24:51), Ryann Smith (24:57), Sami Stroup (25:21), Logan Howlett (25:55), Kristen Fauber (27:38) and Louise Baynat (27:54).
